And I Was Proud of Myself for Actually Finishing a Book This Year; James Franco Plans Second Ph.D.
April 22nd 2011 11:59
Normally, there's nothing I love more than brushing up on some celebrity gossip. It makes me feel better about myself, and I get a kick out of making fun of the over privileged (or anybody, for that matter...). But James Franco had to go and ruin that for me this morning.
I already knew that he will be finishing up a Ph.D. in English shortly at Yale, but didn't realize he had plans to pursue a second Ph.D. in Literature and Creative writing at the University of Houston in 2012.
Franco didn't even have his undergraduate degree until he was 28. But don't get cocky yet (or you'll take a huge blow to the ego like I just did. It still stings.), he may not have started his undergraduate work till 2006, but he finished with a BA by 2008. Yeah, two years. His course loads reached up to 62 credits in one term, where he still managed to pull of a 3.5 GPA.
He has also published a book of short stories titled Palo Alto, and will be teaching at NYU this coming fall as a graduate instructor.
So to sum up;
James Franco = Oscar nominee/Award show host/Ph.D/college professor/published author
Think about that today while you plan your friday night drunken escapades. I started my first drink for the morning when I got to "plans to pursue second Ph.D."
Way to make us all look bad, Franco.
